Children Used In Delaware Shoplifting Spree
WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS 3) ―
Delaware police have arrested two women on charges of shoplifting and concealing stolen items on children.
Michelle Gaeger, 25, and Linsey Adams, 22, of Newark, Delaware and Middleton are charged with shoplifting from the Sears store at the Prices Corner shopping center in Wilmington Tuesday evening.
Gaeger had two of her children with her at the time, ages three and eight, while Adams had her one-year-old with her.
"They put shoes in a department store bag and they hid shoes in the baby carriage, a wagon style carriage they were carrying with them with a lower compartment," said Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh of the Delaware State Police.
The fact that the children were used in the young mothers' heist is particularly troubling for shoppers at the Prices Corner.
"It's terrible, it's wrong but it's also teaching the children to steal, which is even worse," said one concerned mother.
According to Delaware State Police, not only did the mothers hide belongings under the stroller, they went as far as involving the children directly.
"Not that they just concealed the shoes, they put a pair of shoes on one of the children, took the shoes off another child and put those shoes back on the shelf like they were now for sale," said Whitmarsh. "It makes you wonder what else these children have been exposed to."
Adams, who threw a drink on the arresting trooper, has also been charged with unlawful contact with a police officer.
