Thief Swipes Tandem Bike From Handicapped Woman

NEWARK, Del. (CBS 3) ― Police in Delaware are searching for the callous thief who stole a blind woman's tandem bike.

Investigators said the bike was last seen Tuesday evening chained to a fence outside the victim's home in the 300 block of Ashley Road in Newark.

The tandem bike allowed the 59-year-old victim to peddle and enjoy a bicycle ride from the back seat while her friend steered from the front seat.

The bike is a Huffy Savannah tandem, red in color with black seats, and has a silver air pump attached. The locking chain may still be on the bike frame. The bike is valued at $1,000.

Investigators said a Blue Huffy Stone Mountain mountain bike was left at the scene, presumably by the thief. The bike is being held by the Newark Police Department for safekeeping.

If you have any information, you are urged to call the Newark Police Department at 302-366-7111.
