Del. Guardsmen Send Supplies To Gulf

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS 3) ―

Friday marked the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's devastation along the Southern Gulf Coast, as soldiers and relief supplies from our area are again headed to that region.

This time, they will help battle Tropical Storm Gustav, which may grow to a full-fledged hurricane by the time it is expected to reach the Gulf Coast early next week.

On Friday, 33 troops left aboard a transport plane also carrying supplies. Four more troops left Thursday night.

Lieutenant Colonel Chuck Gebhart, of the Delaware National Guard, says he was amazed at the willingness and response of the guardsmen and women, for they were notified of the need for assistance just a few days ago.

Many of the troops on Friday's journey helped with Hurricane Katrina. They will, if necessary, evacuate patients from hospitals in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
