9 Sickened In Delaware Sulfuric Acid Spill

DELAWARE CITY, Del. (CBS 3) ― Nine people were hospitalized after a sulfuric acid spill in New Castle County, Delaware Monday.

The incident happened at about 11:40 a.m. on Route 9 in Delaware City near the Valero Refinery.

A truck spilt acid on Route 9 between Hamburg Road and Governor Lea Boulevard.

According to officials, nine Delmarva Power and Light Company employees, who were working nearby, were affected and hospitalized. They were taken to Christiana Care Hospital for treatment.

A portion of Route 9 remained closed as of late Monday evening as crews finished cleaning up the area.

The spill remains under investigation.
