Family, close friends and fellow officers attended the viewing held at John F. Givnish Funeral Home, on Academy Road in Northeast Philadelphia.
"He is probably one of the nicest persons I have ever met and you usually say that when someone dies, but he was a true, true great person," retired officer Jack Rutter said.
A special mass was also held at St. Jerome's Church in Officer Cassidy's honor.
A second public viewing will be held at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul at 17th and Race Streets Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. A funeral Mass will follow at noon.

After nearly a week of searching, the suspect in the deadly shooting, John 'Jordan' Lewis, was taken into custody by Miami Police early Tuesday morning.
