Community Outraged Over Superintendent Firing

SOUTH COVENTRY TWP, Pa. (CBS 3) ― Despite a firestorm of controversy following the abrupt firing of a Chester County school superintendent, the school board upheld their decision Monday evening.

The Owen J. Roberts School Board, following a surprising motion by board President Edward Kerner, voted 5-4 to relieve superintendent Dr. Myra Forrest last week.

The shocking decision has sent shockwaves through the South Coventry Township community. Residents voiced their opinions at a meeting Monday evening.

"We can't imagine the costs to the district's reputation, productivity and pride that this decision has already caused and will further cause," teacher Michael Wall said to the school board.

Board President Kerner claims the decision to fire Dr. Forrest will save the taxpayers money. Kerner indicated that there have been differences with Forrest over administrative staffing, salaries and expenses.

A vote to rescind the school board's decision failed by just one vote on Monday evening.

"I feel so wonderful about the support that I've gotten from everyone … I'm very disappointed in the vote by the board and I am shocked that they did not listen to the community," Dr. Forrest said.

Dr. Forrest said she was too emotional to decide if she was going to continue to fight to win her job back.
