Philly Store Busted For Selling Bogus Phils Garb
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
A Center City store was raided by investigators on Monday for allegedly selling counterfeit Phillies merchandise.
Officials from the city's Licenses and Inspections department, working on behalf of Major League Baseball, raided Sneaker Junction located in the 300 block of Market Street.
Investigators said they seized more than 1,000 counterfeit hats, shirts and sweatshirts. Officials said if the merchandise was genuine, it would have been valued at more than $25,000.
"You wanna make sure it has the Major League Baseball hologram. You wanna make sure it has the hang tags and you wanna make sure it's of good quality," a MLB investigator told CBS3.
The owner of the store reportedly told investigators he believed the merchandise was legitimate. No criminal charges are expected to be filed.
In addition to Monday's raid, L&I officials also raided 20 to 30 other stores over the weekend and seized more than $100,000 in counterfeit merchandise.
