Police are searching for a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman during a home invasion in a Center City apartment complex late Wednesday evening.
Investigators believe it is not the first time the suspect has attacked in the surrounding area.
Police believe the suspect snuck in the two front doors of the Clinton Court apartment complex located at 9th and Clinton Streets.
Once inside, he waited inside on the 5th floor while he pretended to talk on a cell phone.
At about 11:30 p.m., a 25-year-old woman and her boyfriend came home and were forced inside their apartment by the suspect who was armed with an apparent butcher knife.
"He binds and gags both of these young people and while he's inside that property, we believe it to be an extended period of time, he sexually assaults the female in a bedroom area," Captain John Darby said.
Darby said the suspect "terrorized" the victims and "threatened to kill them." Darby said the terrifying ordeal lasted nearly an hour and a half.
Police said the suspect stole cash, jewelry, a DVD player, a laptop computer and a digital camera.
Investigators said dating back to the 18th, there have been four attacks and attempted robberies in the Center City and South Philadelphia areas.
The attacks have involved a suspect with similar descriptions using a knife. On Tuesday evening, a similar attack occurred in the 1100 block of Lombard Street.
Police said the suspect is described as a black male, 6'2'', with a medium build, light skin, wearing a black mask with white emblem on back, grey hoodie, white thermal jacket, light blue jeans, and black Nikes.
