Camp Little Rock offers a week-long unforgettable summer experience for blind and visually impaired children.
Tina Fiorinto founded camp Little Rock nine years ago and named it after her son Rocco who wasn't accepted into camps because he was visually impaired.
The summer camp, which is annually held as part of the Medford YMCA's Camp Ockanickon, is experiencing its largest group yet with 25 members.
The camp is designed to offer experiences similar to that of a normal day camp like shooting a bow and arrow or riding a horse while catering the activities to the special needs of the children.
"That sounds like a b-flat," said Brian Howard, 8, as he aims a bow and listens for his target.
The archery lesson is just one of dozens of activities that the youngsters participate in.
Iris Lobel, who will be starting the eighth grade this fall, rode a horse for the first time.
"The saddle felt really hard, and then I started to relax," said Lobel. "I think his tail flipped into my leg."
Each child is paired with a seeing buddy or camp counselor to spend all of their time with the child and assist them in their activities.
"I love every second of it," said Tara Kelly, Iris Lobel's buddy at camp. "It makes me feel great just to see that light in their eyes."
Little Rock is still the only camp of its kind in the tri-state region.
