Family Sells World Series Tix For Good Cause
CHESTER, Pa. (CBS 3) ―
The World Series is the hottest ticket in town, but one local family sold off their tickets for a very good cause.
Steve Burman is a member of the Board of Directors of Drexel Neumann Academy in Chester, Pa. He gave five Diamond Box tickets for Game 4 of the World Series to his brother, Marty, then asked him if he'd be interested in selling the tickets and donating the proceeds to Drexel Neumann.
Marty Burman told CBS3, "I wasn't going to make that decision for the kids, so I asked the kids, Ben, Alex, Leo and Sam, my four boys."
"I told my dad that I'm fine with the decision and I know that it's the right decision," Ben Burman, an 8th grader at Strath Haven Middle School said.
The tickets were valued at $2,200 each on StubHub.com.
So the Burman's informed the President of Drexel Neumann, Sister Maggie Gannon, that a donation in the amount of $11,000 was on the way.
Sister Gannon said, "$11,000 is a huge amount of money to us and will go a long way and touch an awful lot of lives."
11-year-old Alex Burman added, "I'm hoping whoever we help gets a good education. Who knows what that person can become, maybe the next President."
Students at Drexel Neumann celebrated with a Phillies pep rally on Friday. During the rally, the group paused to thank God for the gift from the Burman's.
"I hope that the children will continue to do what they have been doing, which is taking the kindness that has been shown to them and show it to others," Sister Gannon said.
