Bucks Co. Teen Killed In After School Crash

WARRINGTON, Pa. (CBS 3) ― A Bucks County high school community is in mourning after a teenage student was killed in a one-car crash Wednesday afternoon.

Alex Smolin, 16, was killed in a crash following the first day of school for upperclassmen at Central Bucks High School South.

Smolin was riding in the backseat of a car when it crashed on Street Road near Elbow Lane in Warrington at about 2:45 p.m.

The 17-year-old driver apparently over-corrected the vehicle after losing control on a sharp curve, causing the car to flip and strike a tree.

The female driver and a 16-year-old male passenger were taken to Abington Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said all three occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The accident occurred approximately one mile from Central Bucks South.

Neighbors say the stretch of road is dangerous, especially for inexperienced drivers.

"This is really just a nasty intersection, stretch of road, there's a bad S-turn," neighbor Ed Harrity said. "Kids that aren't really experienced don't understand there's no shoulder here, they just lose control of their cars."

Smolin apparently moved into the area recently from Florida with her mother. Several fellow students wore black to class Thursday and honored the teen's memory with a makeshift memorial.
