Judge Upholds Boscov's Discrimination Ruling
DOVER, Del. (AP) ―
Boscov's will have to pay $21,000 to five people in a religious discrimination case in Delaware. The Pennsylvania-based department store chain will also have to pay a $5,000 fine.
The penalties were handed down last year by the Delaware Human Relations Commission and were upheld this week by a judge in Dover.
The commission found the department store chain illegally dropped instructional classes that the complainants had planned to teach during a 2005 Campus of Classes program at the Dover store. Two Christians, two Wiccans and a pagan were prevented from holding religious meetings as part of the community enrichment programs.
Boscov's said the sessions didn't reflect the diversity the company wanted for the program.
