Man Assaulted, Robbed After Big Casino Win

ATLANTIC CITY (CBS 3) ― Police in Atlantic City are searching for a suspect who beat and robbed a man of nearly $10,000 in blackjack winnings.

Authorities said a man was attacked inside the parking garage of the Taj Mahal Hotel/Casino at about 8:20 a.m. Monday.

According to police, victim had collected approximately $10,000 in cash when he was assaulted. The suspect fled the scene and hailed a cab following the attack.

The suspect initially told the driver to take him to Baltimore, but later ordered the driver to exit the Atlantic City Expressway at Exit 41 after becoming suspicious. The driver then pulled into a parking lot at a Rite Aid Pharmacy located at Cross Keys Road and Johnson Avenue.

The suspect fled the scene before police could arrive. New Jersey State Police joined Washington Township Police in a search of vacant homes and wooded areas, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The cab driver waited at the Rite Aid parking lot and he was able to give investigators a description of the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5'10", approximately 150-165 pounds, and was last seen wearing a grey and white striped sweater. He has close cropped hair and his age is estimated at mid 20's to early 30's. Police said it is possible he has a right hand injury.

The victim was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City for his injuries, but they are not considered life-threatening. The victim told police he recalled seeing the suspect hanging around the blackjack table while he was playing.
