Massive Fire Engulfs Bellmawr Business

BELLMAWR, N.J. (CBS 3) ― A massive three-alarm fire engulfed a building that housed several businesses in Camden County Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out at about 8:00 p.m. at the ANA Laboratories Inc. in the 600 block of Creek Road in Bellmawr, New Jersey.

According to the company's web site, Ana Labs is an industry leader in the testing and analysis of engine fluids such as oil, fuel, grease and coolant.

Police said about five employees were working inside the building when the fire broke out inside the laboratory. The employees were able to escape the building without being seriously injured.

One employee told CBS 3 that they were working with a highly flammable chemical, Heptane, when something sparked that sent the fire out of control.

In addition to battling the blaze, crews also had to worry about the air and water quality for residents in the area.

"We've been monitoring since the fire started, we had the Camden County hazardous materials departmental team here, they have been checking air quality and water run-off," Camden County Fire Marshall Paul Hartstein said.

Fire officials said tests came back negative and they plan to continue the testing throughout the evening.

There were no reports of any injuries.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
