2nd Bear Spotted In The Philadelphia Region

NORTHAMPTON, TWP. (CBS 3) ―

Wildlife officials are on high alert after a second bear has been spotted roaming neighborhoods in the Philadelphia region.

A Northampton County woman spotted a black bear in her neighborhood and even had time to snap a picture last Wednesday.

Judy Paulus spotted the bear snooping around a bird feeder in the backyard of her Williams Township home. "He swiped it and knocked it right onto the ground, and broke it also."

There have been several bear sightings in the area in recent days.

"Our officers respond to a variety of animal calls, but rarely a bear call. In the last few years we have had several sightings, perhaps they're migrating south," said Chief Guy Miller of the Lower Saucon Twp. Police.

Officials believe the end of hibernation season and the beginning of the summer is drawing the bears to suburban backyards.

The Perkasie Police department has also been receiving numerous calls from Borough residents who have reportedly seen a bear in the area this past weekend.
