Police: Elderly Upper Darby Woman Raped, Murdered

UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS 3) ― An autopsy revealed by Delaware County police confirms that an elderly woman was sexually molested and murdered in her Upper Darby apartment.

On Tuesday, Upper Darby police were called to the Long Lane Apartments for the report of a deceased elderly woman, Jane Morgan, 84. Morgan's apartment, where she lived alone, was described as being in order and the original ruling concluded a death of natural causes.

Police now say that an autopsy has revealed that the elderly woman was beaten, sexually assaulted and suffocated.

"I guess the best way to describe this, it was a brutal, sadistic beating and sexual assault," said Superintendent Michael Chitwood of the Upper Darby Police Department.

Morgan was discovered by a friend who usually drives her to appointments and other locations.

Morgan was a 37-year resident of the Long Lane Apartments, who had a reputation for opening her doors to the neighborhoods stray cats.

Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and are currently working on several arrest warrants. However, they ask that if anyone has information they contact them as soon as possible.
