Officer Assaulted On A.C. Boardwalk
ATLANTIC CITY (CBS 3) ―
A New Jersey man was arrested for allegedly viciously attacking a female officer on the Atlantic City boardwalk this past weekend.
Joseph Spozdzial, 62, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Terroristic Threats.
According to police, uniformed bicycle patrol Officer Jennifer Seif was on routine patrol Saturday morning when she observed Spozdzial yelling at a female who was sitting down in front of the Tropicana Hotel/Casino.
As Officer Seif approached and attempted to dismount from her bike, Spozdzial allegedly came charging at her in what one witness described as a full sprint directly at the officer, police said.
Police said Spozdzial attacked Officer Seif, grabbed her around the neck, began choking her and violently threw her onto the boardwalk.
Officer Seif's bicycle helmet got twisted around her neck at the same time that Spozdzial was choking her. During the attack, Officer Seif heard Spozdzial yelling, "I'm going to kill you; I'm going to kill you."
Several Good Samaritans intervened and were able to subdue Spozdzial until police arrived and arrested him.
Officer Seif was treated and released from AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. During the assault, she sustained an injury to her right knee and left shoulder and neck area. She has been cleared to return to the force later this week.
Spozdzial is being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Mays Landing, New Jersey on $15,000 bail. It was also revealed that Spozdzial also had an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction for contempt of court.
