A second former altar boy has filed a lawsuit in Delaware alleging that
he was abused in the 1950s by the late Reverend Walter Power.
Edward Banks, a
66-year-old attorney from Maryland,
filed his lawsuit Friday. Also suing the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington over Power's
alleged molestation is 65-year-old William Fleming, who lives in Denver.
Power retired in 1983
and died in 1998. He was one of 20 priests named by the diocese who had
credible complaints of sexual abuse against them.
Banks practices utility
law with the Salisbury, Md., firm Banks, Nason & Hickson. He
claims Power sexually abused him more than 50 times when he was serving as an
altar boy in the rural St. Francis De Sales parish in Maryland from 1952 to 1954.
Both Banks and Fleming
are represented by Wilmington
attorney Thomas Neuberger, who has filed more than 20 lawsuits by alleged abuse
victims under a law that suspends the statute of limitations for civil actions
for two years.
