Man Charged With Attempting To Kill Estranged Wife

Prosecutors have accused a suburban Philadelphia chiropractor of trying to hire patients to kill his estranged wife, who was shot and wounded outside their home last spring.
Alan Kushner, 58, was arrested on charges including attempted murder, solicitation to commit murder and conspiracy, Montgomery County prosecutors said Thursday.
Kushner's wife was shot in the wrist in the driveway of the couple's Lower Merion Township home in May, authorities said. She drove for help and told police her husband had threatened to kill her so she wouldn't get any of the $4 million to $5 million estate from their divorce settlement.
District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said Kushner told the owner of a car detailing business in the fall of 2007 that he wanted his wife dead and asked if he "knew anybody."
Prosecutors said a patient told them that Kushner had offered him $20,000 in July to kill his wife.
A receptionist at Kushner's office reported hearing him offer a patient $2,000 in September to commit the murder, prosecutors said.
Ferman said the receptionist frequently heard her boss yelling that he wanted his wife to die, and he hung a witch mask in his office with his wife's name taped across the forehead.
A message left at Kushner's office in Philadelphia's Lansdowne neighborhood was not immediately returned.
