An elderly woman was killed in a house fire Tuesday in Abington
Township, Pennsylvania.
Authorities said flames broke out at about 10:54
a.m. in the 1500 block of North Hills
Avenue and it was placed it under control by noon.
Upon arrival, firefighters found 54-year-old John Teran on
the first floor of the home. Teran was injured while trying to save his
bedridden mother-in-law, 87-year-old Eris Connor, who was trapped on the second
floor of the home. Firefighters attempted to rescue the woman but were pushed
back by the flames.
Connor was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son-in-law was treated at Abington Memorial Hospital
for injuries he suffered while attempting to rescue her.
Authorities said the fire originated in Connor's second floor bedroom, but the
cause remains under investigation by Anginton Fire Marshal Ken Clark.
