A 22-year-old West Chester man has been charged with the murder of his
girlfriend. Police said Justin Grigas is being
held without bail on murder charges.
West Whiteland Police said a 14-year-old boy called 911 after discovering his mother
lying in a pool of blood inside a home on the 200 block of Cambridge Chase in
Exton just before 9 a.m. Saturday.
"That is a horrible situation there. This young boy apparently went
looking for his mother and found her in the state and had the presence of mind
to call 911," Sgt. Martin Malloy, Exton Police said.
Police said 39-year-old Julie Pratt, a mother of three, was struck in the
back of the head, possibly with an axe. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pratt lived in the home with her parents. Neighbors described the area as
quiet.
"It's a wonderful place to live and it's quiet and sedate and no one
even knows it's back here," neighbor Louise Chakejian said.
Police said Pratt's 22-year-old boyfriend, Thomas Grigas, was at the residence late Friday night.
"Mr. Grigas was here last night. We don't know how late, but we do know
that she was alive last night," Malloy said.
Grigas was taken into police custody for questioning Saturday and was arraigned early Sunday morning.
A preliminary hearing is set for November 6th.
Pratt's three children are being cared for by their maternal grandparents.
