NJ Targets Drunken Boaters
CAPE MAY, N.J. (AP) ―
Officials want boaters in New Jersey to stay sober on the water.
On Friday, they're launching a weekend initiative called "Operation Dry Water."
The Coast Guard and State Police will be on the lookout for intoxicated boaters from Sandy Hook to Cape May.
Those convicted of operating a boat with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent or higher face losing their boating privileges and driver's licenses.
There were 139 accidents on the water in the Garden State in 2008, including nine fatalities. None was alcohol-related.
