A Tacony woman is paying a terrible price for trying to
rid her neighborhood of drugs.
Eleanor Carbaugh says her home has been damaged, darts
were thrown through her window, a fire was set on her steps and her mentally challenged
son was threatened and roughed up.
Carbaugh snapped photos of teenagers rolling a marijuana
cigarette and partying in the alley behind her home after they refused repeated
requests to stop illegal drug use in her Tacony neighborhood.
"I am not going to sit inside my house and be afraid of
these little kids running the streets," said Carbaugh.
Eleanor has been feeling their wrath ever since she turned
the pictures of the teens over to the police last September
"They tried to get my dogs out of the yard. I had a blind
beagle and they were kicking in the fence, trying to lure him to the fence and
get him out to hurt him," said Carbaugh.
Police were patrolling Eleanor's street Wednesday
afternoon following the most recent incident. A paper bag was set on fire and
left on her front steps late Monday night.
Eleanor spotted the fire and quickly doused it before any
serious damage could be done.
"What if I had Christmas decorations out there? The whole
front of the house could have went up. I was in there. My son was in there and
my dog is in there," said Carbaugh.
So far Eleanor says not a single neighbor has stepped
forward publicly to help her.
Despite repeated calls to the police the attacks continue
and the single mother and Air Force veteran says she know fears for the life of
her family.
"I have fought to have a home. I am a single mother, I
have worked hard for it and I am not going to be scared by these people," said
Eleanor.
Philadelphia
police told CBS 3 they will be keeping an extra close watch on Mrs. Carbaugh's
home along with local town watch members.
Carbaugh has also been advised on how to file a criminal
complaint and obtain a protection order while detectives determine if they'll
be making any arrests.
