A former Bucks County official finally faces his unresolved criminal past. Chalfont's former borough manager is being held accountable Thursday by an Arizona court, because of a CBS 3 I-Team investigation.
Former Chalfont borough manager David Drye had two outstanding warrants for his arrest and had been on the run from the law. Now an Arizona court has sentenced him.
When CBS 3 first confronted Chalfont Borough Manager David Drye late last year he denied what we found.
Court documents revealed Drye's criminal record extended over ten years.
He had an outstanding warrant on a weapons charge and signed a plea agreement for felony theft for stealing almost $800 from a previous employer in Arizona.
On his 1994 sentencing day, he didn't show up and had been on the run for 12 years.
A Chalfont councilwoman who helped hire Drye three years before seemed more interested in going after us.
But eventually even Drye himself admitted what we uncovered is indeed true.
"Yeah I'd like to thank you for exposing this and bringing up my warrants," David Drye said.
Drye was forced out of his taxpayer funded position in Pennsylvania and back to Arizona to face the court.
The court has now ordered Drye to pay full restitution to his former Arizona employer that he be placed on 18 months probation and perform 40 hours of community service at a community center.
The borough of Chalfont gave Drye a $36,000 severance package when he was forced out of his job last November. The borough never gave an explanation why it felt compelled to do so for a man who was on the run from the law.
