Philly Set To Ring In The New Year
The city of Philadelphia is set to end 2008 with a major bang Wednesday night.
Philly will welcome 2009 with fanfare and fireworks during a free celebration at Penn's Landing.
Organizers say this year the show is bigger and better than ever, with over three tons of explosives ready to launch from a barge on the Delaware River.
The fireworks show was organized by Pyrotecnio, who have produced displays for the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and 76ers.
The colorful display will be set to music with the theme of "Hope, Love and Inspiration."
"When you marry visual and audio experiences together, it can be a life altering experience," said music producer Todd Marocci.
Local businesses are also ready for revelry. The influx of visitors to the city will hopefully bring a much needed boom to area stores and restaurants.
Soho Pizza owner Penny Bernstein said families enjoy activities during the day making way for the bar crowd.
"We're optimistic this is going to be a banner year, starting with tonight," Bernstein said.
If you don't feel like trekking down to Penn's Landing, you can watch the festivities live on CBS 3 and CBS3.com starting at 11:30 p.m.
