One of the best places to celebrate
the New Year was along the Delaware River.
Ralph Piacquadio of Pyrotechnico
said they are excited to supply the traditional fireworks display to Philadelphia.
"We love Philadelphia. We love doing fireworks here
because the city of Philadelphia loves fireworks," he said
Preparations
are underway for a spectacular showing of coordinated explosions along the
banks of the Delaware
River to bring
in the New Year.
"Not only will these
make a dramatic scene in the sky, but you feel them. This is the stuff that you
feel when it pushes on your chest and makes you feel like, 'Oh boy, there's
some power up there,'" Piacquadio
said.
For the 14th
year, those with great balance can enjoy the sights and sounds of the fireworks
from the River Rink at Penn's Landing.
"We've got fortune tellers, we've got
Mummers, we've got food, entertainment and it's from 11p.m. to 1 a.m. It's a non-alcoholic, family-friendly way to
ring in the New Year," said Laurie Curtin Heinerichs Penn's Landing Corp.
Not only will revelers in Philadelphia be able to enjoy the show, but those
across the river will be able to take part in the festivities.
Aboard the Battleship New Jersey, party
goers will be enjoying an annual party held on the historic vessel.
"A $7 donation goes towards the
ship, gets you on board the ship, on the decks," said Jack Willard with the Battleship
New Jersey. "We'll have music, we'll have drinks, we'll have food, we'll have
prizes we'll give away."
And of course, it's not New Year's in Philadelphia
without the Mummers.
As groups make their final preparations for the annual New
Year's Day competition, those curious about what it takes to coordinate a
Mummers show can get a sneak peek at MummersFest at the Convention Center.
Mummers fans can get a sneak peak at the
show by can showing their 2008 Mummers Fancy Brigade Finale ticket for free
