CBS 3 Celebrates 2008 With A Bang!

Station To Televise Fireworks Live At Midnight

Larry Mendte, Kathy Orr To Host New Year's Eve Special

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― CBS 3 will broadcast Philadelphia's New Year's Eve fireworks, for the first time in the station's history, live at midnight on December 31st, President and General Manager Michael Colleran has announced.

Anchors Larry Mendte and Kathy Orr will host the spectacular display live from Penns Landing as part of an hour-long New Year's Eve special airing from 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Channel 3. CBS 3's Susan Barnett will be reporting live from the Blue Cross RiverRink joining families as they watch the magical display of color choreographed to music simulcast by CBS 3 sister station KYW Newsradio 1060.

The broadcast will also take a year-end look at major events in entertainment, news and sports. Regional New Year's Eve celebrations will also be featured in addition to celebrity guests joining the on-air party. "CBS 3 is proud to take the initiative to insure that the fireworks telecast, a Delaware Valley tradition, continues to be broadcast into area homes as our viewers count down the New Year," Colleran says.

New Year's Eve Fireworks at Penn's Landing are made possible through the partnership of CBS 3, KYW Newsradio 1060, the Penn's Landing Corporation, the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation and the City of Philadelphia. Sponsors of the telecast include Pennsylvania Wine and Spirit Stores, Mercy Health System, Raymour & Flanigan and Your Local Chevy Dealers. CBS 3 (KYW-TV) is part of CBS Television Stations, a division of CBS Corporation.
