Doctor Recommends High Definition Liposuction

Highly Expensive Procedure Doesn't Require General Anesthesia, But There Are Many Risks Involved

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Six-pack abs without one sit-up! How is it possible, you ask?

High-definition liposuction can give you that sculpted look without working out, CBS station WCBS-TV reports.

Despite dieting and working out, 31-year-old Joanna Ortiz just couldn't get the muscle definition she wanted in her abs.

"The main part I was concerned about was around the bellybutton area and then the sides, the love handles," Ortiz said.

So Ortiz turned to Dr. Erik Smith for a new kind of liposuction called high definition liposculpture.

"Patients are now able to have a more defined look," Dr. Smith said. "They're able to have an athletic look. They're able to be transformed into a gym body.

"The trick to high definition is not the fat you remove it's what you leave behind."

The fat is sculpted to look like toned muscle.

"I had like a little lump here and one above here and on the sides again," Ortiz said. "I had like, like a little bulge here."

Six days after the surgery Ortiz was still a little swollen and bruised, but already saw the early signs of the sculpted look she wanted.

"I just want more like an hourglass shape for my clothes to fit well and not have the little bulge on the side," she said.

And while Ortiz wasn't aiming to lose weight she'll need smaller pants for her new waist.

"I feel great," she said. "Look at all the space I have now."

The high definition liposuction does not require general anesthesia. As with traditional liposuction, there are risks, including infection and bleeding complications.

Be sure to get medical clearance from your doctor before having any surgery.

The surgery can take hours and can be very expensive -- $10,000 to $15,000.
