Stem cells are considered by many to be the key to curing disease. They start out "neutral," but can become every kind of body tissue through "differentiation."

Stanford University, in collaboration with the City of Hope, have discovered the source of cancer stem cells that have always been resistant to radiation, reports CBS station KCBS-TV.
The team of researchers say their discovery began when they found a pathway that protects normal stem cells.
When that pathway was blocked the research team discovered those cancer stem cells accepted the radiation better.
Their goal, to be able to kill these cancer stem cells completely in the first place, so breast cancer does not return.
