The drugs including Fosomax, Boniva and Reclast can cause
an irregular heart beat according to the new study of 13,000 women from Wake Forest
University.
But doctors are quick to point out the
results are preliminary and more research is needed.
The drugs make bones stronger, and reduce the
risk of fracture.
It's not clear how or
why they might cause heart problems.
Pregnant women who
consume only three quarters of the recommended daily amount of Vitamin E
increases the risk of having a baby with heart abnormalities by nine
times.
The new study found the same link
a month before conception.
Researchers
say Vitamin E appears to cause
heart damage
in early fetal development.
The danger
was found with both supplements and in foods that contain Vitamin E, like
nuts and
eggs.
Many doctors now say women who are expecting
or planning to get pregnant should avoid Vitamin E supplements.
There's proof now that
replacing soda with water cuts calories and helps weight loss.
This new study in the Archives of Pediatrics
says it's an effective way to help children diet.
And a different study from Johns Hopkins
found that cutting calories in drinks, like soft drinks, can be more effective
than cutting calories from food.
The
researcher from John Hopkins says the dieters who cut out sugary sodas had the
most significant weight loss.
They say
what you drink might be more important than what you eat when your trying to
lose weight, especially if you're a soda drinker.
