Free Flu Shots Given In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ―
Free flu shots were given Monday in an effort to help those who need immunization.
The event at Health Center 2 in
South Philadelphia was the kick-off for the city's Influenza Immunization Campaign, which is focused at providing shots for the elderly and other groups for whom the flu could be a serious health risk. Other groups who should get a yearly flu shot include children, pregnant women and people with chronic illnesses.
According to Health Commissioner John F. Domzalski, 3,600 people die a year in the
United States due to the flu. The key to preventing influenza is protection, such as the flu vaccination.
The city will provide 113,000 flu shots free of charge at over 200 locations in Philadelphia starting November 1.
