Real-Time Medicine At New Philadelphia Center
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
A big new hospital expansion here in Philadelphia begins with the opening of a new
state-of-the-art facility, said CBS 3 medical reporter Stephanie Stahl.
It's called real-time medicine, just one of the new
features at the Perelman
Center for Advanced
Medicine.
It officially opened today at
the University of
Pennsylvania.
Jane Abbott has had heart surgery and a serious battle
with breast cancer. She sees lots of doctors.
Now they'll all be coordinated inside HUP's new Perelman Center
for Advanced Medicine.
"It's very comforting," said Abbott.
The center is a $302 million outpatient facility that will
house twelve specialities.
Dr. Michael Parmacek, the head of cardiology at the
hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania, said,
"The cancer patients can literally be seen by a cancer doctor and in the
same day, walk over, see a cardiologist, and have the full cardiac test they
need to get a full evaluation."
Dr. Parmacek says the Perelman Center
has all the new cutting-edge equipment.
For patient convenience, it's essentially one-stop shopping
"Real-time medicine has always been a concept that is
now becoming a reality," said Dr. Parmacek.
For patients like Jane Abbott, having her doctors and
medical care coordinated is reassuring. There's even a new parking garage
"Peace of mind is everything," said Abbott.
The official dedication for the Perelman Center
is happening this evening.
Once the
facility is fully operational, 400 new jobs will be created with the new
center.
