Health: Plastic Surgery To Look Like A Celebrity

by Stephanie Stahl
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― In health, many are getting plastic surgery to look like a star. Many surgeons say patients are asking to look like certain celebrities and Medical Reporter Stephanie Stahl reports on the details.

Jessica Alba's nose and Heath Ledger's chin are among the celebrity body parts most requested.

"This is the new era so to speak," said Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Leonard Grossman.

It's the latest trend in cosmetic surgery, a recent survey reports nine times out of ten when a person goes under the knife, they're hoping the feature being altered will end up looking like a particular celebrity's.

"I chose the lips of Meg Ryan," said Radka Jureckovia.

26-year-old student and part time model Jureckovia combed the pages of celebrity and fashion magazines until she found the perfect pout.

"I like her lips, I wanted my lips to look fuller, more sensual," said Jureckovia.

Jureckovia had a lip augmentation, a synthetic product was surgically implanted to permanently enhance her lips and she says it's no different than wanting to mimic Meg Ryan's hairstyle.

Now, people go and they want the nose or the cheek or the breasts or the legs of a celebrity

However, Dr. Grossman warns altering your appearance through a cosmetic procedure is serious surgery and permanent, so you don't want a look that does not fit your features.

"There is something wrong with someone trying to focus on a body part thinking that it will change everything about me, which it does not," explained Dr. Grossman.

Also, Dr. Grossman says you need to be realistic; most celebrities spend several hours a day working out to maintain their appearance.

"The average American doesn't see all the hard work that these celebrities put in," said Jarett Wieselman, Senior Editor of In Touch Weekly.

According to In Touch Weekly, some of the most requested parts these days belong to Angelina Jolie, Jessica Simpson, Matthew McConahghey and Jennifer Aniston.

The popularity of plastic surgery continues to grow, up 11-percent over last year.

The top 3 procedures are liposuction, nose jobs and breast augmentation.
