Health: High-Definition Liposuction
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
CBS 3 medical reporter Stephanie Stahl shows a new procedure that promises a gym body without working out.
We're talking about that sculpted look. Six-pack abs, without one sit-up! Super-toned abs. A flat belly with muscle definition.
Joanna Ortiz, 31, tried dieting and working out, but couldn't get that look.
"The main part I was concerned about was around the belly button area and then the sides, the love handles," said Ortiz.
Wanting specific spot reduction, Joanna turned to Dr. Erik Smith for a new kind of liposuction called High Definition LipoSculpture.
"Patients are now able to have a more defined look. They're able to have an athletic look. They're able to be transformed into a gym body," said Dr. Smith.
"Unlike with traditional lipo, where large areas of fat are removed, with this hi def procedure, it's specific small pockets of fat that are removed. The trick to definition is not the fat you remove, it's what you leave behind," Dr. Smith said.
So the fat is sculpted to look like toned muscle, as seen in photos from VASER Hi Def Lipo.
Six days after the surgery, Joanna is still a little swollen and bruised, but she's already sees the early signs of the sculpted look she wants.
"I had a lump here and here, and on the sides, I had a little bulge here," said Ortiz.
"I just want more like an hourglass shape for my clothes to fit well and not have the little bulge on the side," said Ortiz.
And while Joanna wasn't aiming to lose weight, she'll need smaller pants for her new sculpted waist.
"I feel great," Ortiz said while showing off her pants. "Look at all the space I have now!"
During the procedure, Joanna was numbed and sedated. Hi Def LipoSculpture is designed for people who are not overweight.
The surgery can take hours, and it is expensive, between $10,000 and $15,000.
