Health: Female Energy Drink
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
In health, Medical Reporter Stephanie Stahl has details on the new "pink drink" --- a new energy drink especially designed for women with an extra boost of energy to help you get through those busy days.
Girly all the way. It's pink, slender, and bubbly.
The new drink named "Her" as in healthy, energy, revitalizer. It's a sparkling pink lemonade.
"Her" contains a variety of anti-oxidants, calcium, ginseng, vitamins, and 45 milligrams of caffeine, which is less than other energy drinks.
The maker says too much of the stimulant isn't good for women. The idea with "Her" is to give women a healthy jolt of energy.
"We like to think of ourselves more as an active lifestyle beverage. Something that a woman will drink in the morning because she's going to drop her kids off at school and she needs a pick up in the morning as in the same way that she would have a coffee," said Brett Jacobson, developer of "Her."
There are two kinds of "Her," a no calorie version and the regular one, which contains 130 calories.
"It is very high in Vitamin C and B, but it's also very high in sugar," said Dietitian Patricia Bannan.
She says the sugar has too many empty calories.
Otherwise Patricia says, "Although energy drinks aren't good for you per say, it doesn't mean that they're evil."
After checking out the nutrition label, Virginia Smith liked the idea of a female friendly energy drink.
"I think they're great. They're good boosters especially in this lifetime. We have to do 1,000 things in one day," said Virginia.
A nutritionist we spoke with says "Her" is a marketing gimmick and that women would be better off drinking a cup of tea and taking a multi-vitamin.
But if you are interested it's available online, the cost is $45 dollars for a case of 24 cans.
