Health: Using Water To Wash Away Fat
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
Calorie counting and regular workouts can only go so far. Those stubborn trouble spots can be tough to get rid of.
It's an issue for 45-year-old Michelle Groomes.
"There's still a certain area where your body deposits fat. I don't care how I worked out and I had body trainers and I just couldn't get it," said Michelle.
So she's turned to Body-Jet Water-Jet Assisted Liposuction. Jet streams of water are used to gently wash away fat.
"The advantage of the Body-Jet is that stream allows to remove those fat cells, but it doesn't do any harm to the blood vessels and the nerves," said Dr. Daniel Man, a plastic surgeon.
That's the problem with traditional liposuction. The force used to remove the fat can be traumatic, but it remains the number one cosmetic procedure performed for both women and men.
With the Water-Jet Lipo the fat is loosened, so it's easier to remove.
The benefits of Body-Jet include local sedations, minimal bruising and swelling, more accuracy, less pain and a quick recovery.
Michelle says the procedure felt like a deep body massage with a lot more benefits.
"I don't feel scared to put a bikini on anymore, and for 45, I'm pretty happy with that," said Michelle.
Michelle now has a slimmed down belly and waist. The little bulge she had before the procedure is gone. If Michelle stays in good shape, the results are supposed to last for years.
The newly FDA approved procedure is comparable to traditional liposuction in terms of what's accomplished and the cost, which is about $4,500.
Dr. Richard Goldfarb in Langhorne is performing the procedure. For more information call
