PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
The ugly economy has hit the beauty business, but there could be a pretty side for consumers --cosmetic coupons.
Jami Gorman is getting a discount facial. In the spirit of the season, it's a pumpkin peel.
"I like it, it helps right now, it's a good deal," Jami told us.
Jami, who's 37, has decided to go back to graduate school. Money is tight, but she wants to keep her skin looking good with monthly discounted facials.
"They're a lot more reasonable, I have definitely reduced costs that I spend on skin care now," she said.
Economic difficulties have spawned new discounts in the beauty world -- free gift certificates, $200 off, holiday specials, and much more.
"The volume of the high end big surgical procedures has decreased," said Dr. Ted Katz.
With fewer $10,000 and $20,000 face lift patients, Dr. Katz with Valley Square Plastic Surgery is among a growing number of doctors who are offering discounts on other services.
"It averages between 10 and 20 percent depending on what the procedure is," said Dr. Katz.
Susan Schatz signed up for a package deal, getting facials for $65 instead of what they used to cost -- $90.
"Now I can get it done at a lower price, so it's very helpful," said Susan. "It helps me keep my skin looking healthier and younger and rejuvenated."
Beauty on a budget -- shop around -- you can find some pretty impressive deals on a variety of treatments.
Some doctors are even offering discounts on the more expensive procedures, lasers, fillers, even Botox, but be careful to go to an experienced, certified doctor.
