Health: High-Tech Personal Trainer
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
A personal trainer in a tiny computer chip. Curves is the work out that's helped millions of women get in shape and it has now gone high tech.
"You definitely feel it in your arms and shoulders," said Lorraine Muzychoko.
Lorraine is doing the new Smart Workout at Curves. It's helped her lose 35 pounds -- going from a size 14 down to a six.
"Where do you notice the biggest change in your body?" asked Stephanie Stahl.
"All through this area (waist/thighs) and arms too, a tremendous amount in the arms," responded Lorraine.
This is Curves new computerized workout. It's personalized to your fitness level and goals.
Individual ID tags keep track of the work out, keying in on repetitions and resistance. Different color lights let you know how you're doing.
"It really pushes you on the machine," said Lorraine.
The ID tags are equipped with individual computer chips that basically act like a personal trainer at each piece of equipment.
"If they're working to their capacity, it's going to be green, if they're not going fast enough, it turns it yellow," explained Curves owner Doreen Gunderson.
"I'm not going all the way over like I should," said Marianne Moran.
Marianne Moran is getting a yellow light, meaning she needs to work a little harder.
"I love the new program, I actually can feel it, I can feel my muscles pulsating," she said.
After the work out, you get a personalized analysis.
Green dots highlight spots that hit your target.
For an extra $5 a month on her membership, Marianne says it's a hard deal to beat, especially when she finds out she burned 422 calories in just half an hour.
