Green Scene: Danny Seo, The Face of Eco-Chic

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― If you're looking for a way to work with the environment but you don't want to sacrifice style, the April issue of Philadelphia Magazine introduces readers to a local man on a very chic green mission.

Meet Danny Seo, a "crafty" environmentalist.

"I loved great design and living well, but also I loved sustainability and the environmental movement," said Seo.

A self-described "eco-stylist," Seo grew up in nearby Reading. Today he lives green in a fixer-upper near Doylestown.

"The goal was to bring it up to speed in terms of modern technology, but without making it so sterile," said Seo.

Smart heating and cooling systems save energy and money. Recycled glass and concrete countertops complement recycled wood flooring.

Philadelphia Magazine calls him the "face of eco-chic."

"What's great about him, he has tips that anybody can use," said Lauren McCutcheon of Philadelphia Magazine.

For example, keep your dryer lint.

For the fireplace or barbecue," explains Seo. "It's a great fire starter. It's all cotton or wool, and it's slow burning."

How about leftover coffee? Just in time for Easter, he had this tip: "If you don't have time to dye eggs and you want chocolate brown eggs, throw eggs into the coffee pot."

An environmental lifestyle contributor for the CBS Early Show, his segments cover everything from crafts to environmental news.

"To help viewers choose the right bulb, make the right decisions and make green living just a little bit easier," said Seo.

For this author and magazine contributor, nothing goes to waste. An old easel holds a modern TV. Dusty flea market finds become striking wall art.

"It's not about buying things based on the name or the tag, but it's buying things based on quality, sustainability, recycled materials," said Seo.

Danny Seo comes by the green scene naturally -- his birthday is Earth Day, coming up on April 22.
