Green Scene: Locals Offer Green Gifts
PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ―
In today's Green Scene, you might be thinking of cutting
back on waste this holiday.
We found
some local businesses who are cashing in on that desire by offering
environmentally friendly gifts. CBS 3's Susan Barnett has the story.
To Todd Baylson, the most beautiful gift is the one you
never throw away.
So he started The
Green Perspective, a gift basket company in Philadelphia.
"It was fun to put together packets that had themes
that people were used to, but with green products that were stylish and attractive
but still environmentally friendly," said Baylson,
For example, the baby basket features glass baby bottles,
an organic cotton onesie, even a pig made from reclaimed wool, and more.
All the gift baskets come with their own
green-themed book, and many are wrapped in reusable totes.
"There's this simple elegance idea, and we'd like
people to just reflect on that and hopefully adapt it," said Baylson.
If you prefer to wrap, Caren Levin of Lafayette Hill
created a greener paper.
"I was shocked that I couldn't find recycled gift
wrap," said Levin. "So I got the idea for Earth Love'N Paper
Products."
Levin's gift wrap is 100 percent post-consumer recycled
paper, processed chlorine free, and made in the USA.
Even the inks are vegetable ink instead of solvent.
The designs run from Hannukah to Christmas.
"During the winter holidays, four million tons of
gift wrap and shopping bags are thrown away," said Levin.
So Levin says, recycle your wrap this year and every year.
