N.J. Community On Alert After Alarming Incidents
WEST DEPTFORD, N.J. (CBS 3) ―
Parents in two West Deptford neighborhoods are on alert after two suspicious incidents involving children.
Police in West Deptford and neighboring Woodbury have stepped up patrols following the two incidents.
The first incident was an attempted abduction on June 6 behind the Frances Avenue baseball complex.
A teenager told police an older white male grabbed her as she walked home along a dirt path in a wooded area.
"There was an old, creepy man in a trench coat and he grabbed me by my wrist
he pulled and I pulled back and I ran as fast as I could," the victim in the June 6 incident explained.
The second incident occurred on June 15 in the Greenfield Heights community when an older man in a maroon pick-up asked a young girl: "if she was out for a walk or needed a ride?"
The young girl said no and took off running.
Police said the second incident is considered suspicious, but not a luring attempt.
As of right now, police do not believe both incidents are connected, but they are asking residents to be vigilant.
