Work Begins On New Cargo Terminal In Paulsboro
PAULSBORO, N.J. (AP) ―
Work is beginning on a new cargo terminal in the southern New Jersey port town of Paulsboro.
Gov. Jon Corzine and other officials broke ground Tuesday for the Paulsboro Marine Terminal on the Delaware River.
Corzine says the project will create 500 construction jobs over the next three years and will support 2,500 permanent jobs in the future.
The first phase of the project, to be completed by 2012, involves building two 40-foot deep berths for ships, along with warehouse space, an access road and bridge. It is to cost $174 million. Most of the money will come from the state government.
A second phase, to be finished in 2017, will add a third ship berth, a 20-foot deep barge berth and more warehouse space.
