Fallen Sergeant Remembered One Year Later

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― Friends and family took a moment to remember a Highway Patrol sergeant who was killed in the line of duty one year ago Wednesday.

A moment of silence was held at 1:47 p.m. in Resurrection Cemetery for Sergeant Patrick McDonald in remembrance of his ultimate sacrifice.

Following the ceremony, a candlelight vigil was held at Liberty Bell Field in Northeast Philadelphia Wednesday evening.

Sgt. McDonald was fatally wounded during a pursuit of an armed suspect on North Colorado and 17th Streets. The suspect, who was on parole, was subsequently shot and killed by a second officer at the scene.

McDonald, an 8-year veteran, was posthumously promoted to sergeant after his death.
