Accused Cop Killer Moved From Hospital To Prison

PHILADELPHIA (CBS 3) ― A career criminal charged in the death of a Philadelphia Police officer was transferred to a correctional facility after spending several weeks in the hospital.

Rasheed Scrugs, 33, is accused of fatally shooting 25-year-old Officer John Pawlowski with a .357 magnum on February 13.

Scrugs was allegedly attempting to rob a cab driver at Broad Street and Olney Avenue when officers arrived. Police said he fired several shots from inside his jacket, killing Officer Pawlowski.

Fellow officers returned fire, striking Scrugs multiple times. He was taken to Einstein Hospital in critical condition. Due to his injuries, authorities had to arraign Scrugs in his hospital bed on Tuesday.

He is currently being held at an area correctional facility on charges of first-degree murder and related counts.
