Woman Sentenced For Hiding Convicted Cop Killer
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ―
The girlfriend of man charged in the killing of a Philadelphia police officer will serve prison time for helping him evade capture.
Thirty-nine-year-old Tonya Stephens was sentenced Thursday to four to eight years for hindering the apprehension of a fugitive and criminal conspiracy.
Authorities say she helped Eric Floyd hide after he and two other men robbed a bank and fatally shot Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski in May 2008.
Defense lawyer Bernard Siegel says Stephens simply went with Floyd when he ran. Floyd was captured four days after the robbery and is awaiting trial.
Stephens was also sentenced in a separate probation violation case Thursday to 2-1/2 to five years in prison. The sentences will run consecutively, for a total of 6-1/2 to 13 years.
