One year later the pain is yet to cease, and Saturday night Philadelphia remembered an officer killed in the line of duty.
Family, friends and fellow police officers gathered to honor the life of 18-year-veteran, Isabel Nazario. Nazario was killed one year ago today when her patrol car was struck by the driver of a stolen car.
Officer Nazario and her partner were on patrol when they began pursuing a stolen Cadillac Escalade being driven by a 16-year-old without a license.
Officer Nazario was killed instantly, and her partner was critically injured in the collision.
Saturday's day of remembrance began with a motorcycle ride from the Police Academy on State Road at 10 a.m. and ended in Lancaster County.
Later in the night Nazario was remembered by candlelight vigil at 39th and Wallace, the location of the fatal collision.
Democratic candidate Seth Williams was on hand for the event.
"It is an honor to take part in these events to pay tribute to Officer Nazario and show my respect to all the men and women on the Philadelphia Police Department who put their lives on the line every day in service to the public. Sadly this city has had to say good bye to too many officers in the past few years who have been stricken down in the line of duty," said William.
"It's a day none of us will forget because it marks the one-year anniversary that Isabel Nazario was killed in the line of duty," said Commissioner Charles Ramsey.
The memorial was emotional as family members held each other and wept at the scene of the crash.
Police officers on hand held roses and offered support for Isabel's mourning family on a day her family or the city of Philadelphia will never forget.
