Police outside Philadelphia have arrested a man they say attacked an officer with a short sword.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says 36-year-old George Rogers tried to stab officer Dan Lanni early Sunday morning. Rogers is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and other charges.
Chitwood says officers were responding to a call from a man who said he had a crossbow and would burn down his house when they found Rogers barricaded in a bedroom.
Chitwood says Rogers tried to stab Lanni with a 13-inch sword but the officer was protected by a Kevlar shield. Another officer subdued Rogers with a stun gun.
"We dubbed George Rodgers the 'Last Samurai' cause he ain't gonna to be stabbing or swinging knives and trying to kill cops for a long period of time to come," said Chitwood.
Authorities say crossbows and other weapons were found in the room.
Rogers is being held on $75,000 bail.
