Hundreds Take Part In Delaware Co. Safe Surrender
CHESTER, Pa. (CBS 3) ―
Several hundred fugitives turned themselves into police during a four-day safe surrender program in Delaware County, police said.
Authorities said 447 fugitives voluntarily surrendered during the program held at the White Rock Christian Church between September 30 and October 4.
The inside of the church was converted into a make-shift courthouse where judges, prosecutors and U.S. Marshals cleared over 1,300 warrants, including 15 felonies. Of the hundreds that surrendered, only 14 were detained.
Current fugitives may still surrender at the Media courthouse as the Delaware County Sheriff will begin a large-scale fugitive sweep of the area.
