A Delaware County councilwoman is under investigation for allegedly buying a gun for a convicted felon.
The investigation began when a semi-automatic 9mm owned by Darby Borough Councilwoman Edna Stockley was found under the seat of a rental car returned by felon Andrew Cuff last week.
"Mr. Cuff is a convicted felon, (he) has served time and has been convicted of several felonies and he cannot own a firearm in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania," Chief Robert Smythe of the Darby Police Department explained.
Stockley, who is the boyfriend of Cuff, claimed to police that the gun must have slipped out of her purse.
"They did interview Stockley on several occasions and got several different stories," Smythe said.
Police raided Cuff's Mulberry Street garage and seized $27,000 in cash, along with narcotics and additional firearms.
Investigators said the garage also contained several more links between Cuff and Stockley, including photos and paperwork.
"You can't buy firearms and have it in the custody or the hands of another person or least of all a convicted felon," Smythe said.
Cuff was released on $50,000 bond.
So far, no charges have been filed against Stockley. The incident remains under investigation.
