1 Dead, 2 Injured During Del. Hostage Situation

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS 3) ― Police in Delaware have arrested a man who held three people hostage in a Wilmington home, killing one and injuring the others.

At 9 p.m. police were dispatched to the 1500 block of West 4th Street on reports of shots being fired in the area. When officers arrived, they were told a man was inside of a home and possibly shooting the residents. 

Responding officers sealed off the area and requested the assistance of Wilmington SWAT and Police Hostage Negotiators.

After a four-hour negotiation, the suspect, identified as Parris Hamilton, 38, exited the residence and was taken into custody. Three victims were found to have been shot multiple times inside the home.

Investigators learned that Hamilton was the ex-boyfriend of a 39-year-old female resident of the home, who was there with her two sons, age 15 and 21.

According to police, Hamilton and his ex-girlfriend were having an argument when he pulled out a handgun and began shooting.

The woman and her 15-year-old son were taken to Christiana Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds where they are listed in stable condition, the 21-year-old son was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators also revealed that a 40-year-old male was inside the home and hiding in an upstairs bedroom during the incident, he sustained no injuries.

Police have not yet determined a motive for the shootings and the incident remains under investigation.

Hamilton was charged with murder, attempted murder and burglary, no bail information has been released.
